South Coast Challenge 2023 (100km) · 2 September 2023 to 3 September 2023 ·

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

We are a group of mums that met in our mums classes at BusyLizzy Fleet where we attended classes with our boys. One of the boys is the handsome Benji who was born with the condition craniosynostosis, which Benji has a sagittal suture was fused, only 1 in 2500 are born with this fuse. Therefore, Benji had to have surgery called a spring-assisted cranioplasty, which can only be done at GOSH. The risks of not having the surgery could raise intracranial pressure and could potentially cause, seizures, blindness, headaches, learning disabilities and development delays. So Benji's parents made the decision to do a surgery that has only been done 800 times at GOSH. The GOSH team provided such support and information to the Benji's parents and continue to provide them with support and care, we felt as a group we wanted to complete this challenge and raise funds for such a great hospital. Our team is Jem, Wendy, Liz, Magi and Denise. Liz is Benji's mum and with Magi they are completing the Quarter distance (25km), Denise is completing the Half (50km), Jem and Wendy are completing the Full 100km continuously.
