On the 19th May 2019 me & my husband Jordan will be running the Greater Manchester 10k for the Stroke Association in memory of my Grandma Brenda.

Towards the end of 2018 our Glam-ma Brenda sadly passed away very suddenly from a stroke. There was no warning signs and it was a huge shock to us all. She is greatly missed by our whole family every day but her strength and sassiness still lives on in all of us...... Which is why I'm running it 6 months pregnant!

I vowed to run the 10k in her memory this year, and that hasn't changed since finding out I was expecting. I know it will be a challenge but I have had the go ahead from healthcare professionals who have encouraged me to participate as running has so many benefits for both mother and baby. 

Even though you are now twice as likely to survive a stroke compared to 20 years ago, stroke is still the fourth single largest cause of death in the UK. When I got the call that Grandma had had a stroke I honestly thought she'll be okay. The picture of her on this page was taken only a couple of months before at my wedding, she was healthy & never had any obvious warning signs. Sadly, she passed away within a few days of having the stroke. Strokes can actually be prevented and we need to change how people think about stroke and challenge the myths surrounding it. The stroke association push for greater awareness of stroke and its warning signs and campaign for better stroke care.
