Story
I am fundraising for Meningitis Now, a charity that helps in the research of fighting this disease, as well as supporting those facing the aftermath.
In November 2018, my beautiful best friend became incredibly ill within a few hours with Meningococcal Septicaemia, a rare strain of Meningitis, which cannot be prevented with vaccinations. She was induced into a coma almost immediately. After spending months in Southampton and Salisbury hospitals in intensive care, she is now an inpatient at Roehampton hospital where she is undertaking her rehabilitation programme in order to gain her strength back and learning to walk again, after both legs were amputated under the knee, as well as her fingers and having to have extensive skin grafts, which resulted in over 10 surgeries.
Seeing how Becca is coping throughout all of this is honestly the most humbling and inspiring experience, and I want everyone to see how incredible she is with both her physical and mental strength - she has honestly dealt with this in the most calm way possible.
Raising money for Meningitis Now will help fund research into curing this disease, as well as providing help and support for those facing bereavement, limb loss, brain damage, amongst other after effects.
We almost lost Becca twice throughout this illness, and of course she fought back and defied the odds. I am just so unbelievably proud of her and that's why I will be raising money by dressing up as a banana and trekking across Bristol from city centre to the Suspension Bridge.
Anyone is welcome to join me on this dress up walk on the morning of 5th May and I hope that I am able to raise some money to help this cause.
Thank you :)
