Story
Dear family and friends:
On June 5th, 2010, Simon and I will celebrate our wedding. The formal ceremony occurred on December 8th, 2009 at the Westminster Registrar's Office in London. As that was arranged at short notice, we wanted to have a celebration at a more convenient time, which we hope many of you will be able to join.
We have been blessed with two wonderful children, Isabel and Charlie, good health, life in the heart of one of the World's great cities, and most importantly, you, our family and friends. Awareness of these privileges--and of the need to live in solidarity with our neighbours, particularly those less fortunate--led me to volunteer for CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development. Simon and I ask that in lieu of ALL wedding presents you help us support the ongoing work of CAFOD.
CAFOD (www.cafod.org.uk) works with local partners to help relieve the suffering of our brothers and sisters who live in some of the most impoverished countries of the world; who have been struck by natural disasters, most recently the earthqake in Haiti; who are innocent victims of racial or sectarian violence (for example in Sudan); who suffer from diseases without healthcare or community support; or who live at the sharp end of climate change, which threatens the survival of whole communities. CAFOD receives support mostly direct from individuals. Its resources go directly to help the intended people or programmes, not to government officials. CAFOD is part of the international Caritas network.
Thank you all in advance for you generosity and for helping make our lives so blessed. We hope to see all of you on June 5th, or if that is not possible, in the near future.
In gratitude and friendship,
Betty & Simon
