So in a couple of days I am going to become a Senior citizen eeek, how did that happen?  I was only 21 on my last birthday!  Or at least in my head I was.  

I've had a few people asking me what I would like for my birthday and I've been thinking how I would love it if rather than buying me a gift if they could put that money they would have spent into a charity of my choice.  My chosen charity is Dementia UK.  

I've raised money a few times in my life for Cancer Research so I got to thinking of other worthwhile charities and I kept coming back to a Dementia/Alzheimers charity.  I've looked after people with dementia and seen the devastation the disease brings with it.  The families of people affected with this cruel disease are grieving for their loved ones long before the person actually passes away and the people themselves who suffer are grieving for the person that they once were.  It's heartbreaking.

Whilst looking after people with Dementia/Alzheimers I've had some wonderful times helping them live as normal a life as possible but it's also very sad watching that person deteriorate and becoming a shadow of the person they once were.

So the best birthday gift that would make me happy is to know I have raised some money by donating my birthday money to help the charity.

 Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure which I think is an excellent charity that by donating we may one day have a cure for this cruel disease.
