On the 7th September we’re walking 100k from Putney to Henley for the Encephalitis Society which is a cause that is very close to our hearts, after Sophie suffered with Encephalitis in 2017. 

We'll be dusting off our walking boots and setting off for the solid 22 hour walk through the night.The distance is just under 3 marathons, so we'll be packing plenty of trail mix.

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain, caused either by an infection invading the brain or through the immune system attacking the brain in error. It affects 6000 people in the UK a year but only 20% of the population know what the illness is!

Soph was really lucky in the early diagnosis of her illness and was able to be given treatment quickly, stopping the damage to her brain and saving her from having any permanent after effects. Unfortunately for some, this is not the case. The illness is fast acting and without knowledge of the symptoms, Encephalitis can be misdiagnosed, leading to delays in seeking treatment which may have devastating consequences. The Encephalitis Society helps to raise awareness for the symptoms and also offers support for families and patients through their recovery.
