Story
What we are taking on:
Over the space of 1 week we are attempting to climb the 3 tallest mountains in Great Britain and cycle between them.
Overall this is over 20 miles of hiking, over 500 miles of cycling and more elevation gain than Mount Everest.
Message from Matt:
I've wanted to do this challenge for a number of years, when the situation in Ukraine began to escalate in February I wanted to do something to help. After watching Lachlan Morton complete his epic ride from Munich to the Ukraine boarder I realised that this challenge would help draw the perfect inspiration to help the people of Ukraine.
The conflict has been brought closer to home due to the fact my wife's grandparents came to England from Ukraine during WW2. We still have extended family living in Ukraine right now. History should not be allowed to repeat itself and we can help prevent it by raising vital money for the people of Ukraine.
Message from Ben:
The moment Matt mentioned the idea to me I knew I had to get involved. An epic challenge and for a cause that everyone can passionately get behind - what’s not to like!
I must confess I’m nervous, it’s a daunting challenge - especially when pitting my skills against Matt’s superior cycling prowess. Hopefully I can take over on the mountains and give all I can to ensure we make through to end.
What is the DEC appeal:
Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing hundreds of thousands to flee. Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.
DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries. They are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.
£30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month.
£50 could provide blankets for 4 families to keep them warm.
£100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month.
