Story

Hello

Firstly thank you for visiting our page.

We all decided we wanted a challenge which would involve team work but also be something to train for.

Between us we will do 2 x 26 mile hikes

Kat, Lisa, Sasha and Ellie are taking on Brighton to Eastbourne on 8th June

Sarah, Hannah and Becca are taking on the Thames path on 20th July

We all appreciate any donations towards this cause and hope you enjoy reading about our updates on the many training walks and fundraising events planned.

For now please take a read of the below on why we are doing this:

Hannah -

After losing my Dad to cancer five years ago, I know how
important services like Macmillan can be for people diagnosed and those around them so that’s why I wanted to get involved in the walk and raise some money for this great charity. They helped him a lot and I always carried the helpline number in my purse knowing I could call if I needed. So how hard can walking a marathon be…..?

Sasha -

I am getting involved in The Big Walk as it is a fun team
activity that is giving me the motivation to keep fit at the same time as
raising money for a great charity!

Becca -

My dear nan was looked after in her last few days by a team of truly amazing Macmillan nurses. They were just brilliant and helped my family and I deal with some sad times, looking after my nan so she was able to see out her last few days with ease. I'm also doing this challenge for me! Best foot forward.. !

Kat -

My family has had a lot of experience with cancer - my Dad survived Bladder cancer and sadly in recent years we lost my uncle to cancer.  Macmillan are such a valuable source to families going through this experience. I wanted to challenge myself to walk 26 miles to help raise vital funds to keep this service provided to families which can be so key and important.

Ellie-

I am doing the Big Walk as I know how much cancer can affect
families and the impact that it has on them. I lost my Grandpa and a friend to cancer so I wanted to do this for them. Macmillan nurses are so important to people fighting cancer so I want to get involved to support them. It’s also going to be a good reason to get fit for 2019!

Lisa -

I am walking for my Auntie, everyone else that has been affected by cancer and in memory of my Gran & Brenda. With more people living with cancer than ever before, the need for Macmillan’s support work is constantly growing.

Sarah -

I have personally been supported by Macmillan when I went through my own cancer diagnosis nearly 11 years ago. my Macmillan nurse, Marion was a voice of calm in the chaotic world that I suddenly found myself in- providing guidance, interpretation of medical language, tissues and lots of laughs (not necessarily in that order). She also opened up a network for me of people going through the same experience. Macmillan nurses give the time to listen and answer your endless questions and for their support I am doing this challenge.
