Story

Make healthy choices when you go out to eat, but don't go overboard. You don't have to starve yourself on salads, but replacing the fatty fries that are served with steamed vegetables will make your meal less likely to spike your blood sugars. A Diabetic has to be careful, but doesn't have to be anorexic!

If you have been diagnosed with Diabetes - keep a diet diary! This is a handy tool! A diary will allow you to track what and how much you are eating. It will also help you detect a pattern you may have for a certain craving at a particular time of the day. You will be able to see which foods cause your blood glucose level to spike. Perhaps you can make some tasty alternatives that will not have such an effect on your Diabetes? Doing so will help you to avoid any unnecessary headaches.

The risk of getting diabetes can be reduced by having a diet that is high in fiber. This is a good way to replace high glycemic foods, such as white bread or processed foods by whole grain foods. There are many studies that show that people who eat whole grains, and low-GI foods in general, get diabetes less often than those who don't.

Try buying food at local farmer's markets or at the farm itself to get discounts on healthy foods. A diet for Diabetes doesn't have to be expensive, you just have to look for deals and sometimes shop in different locations. Eating farm fresh eggs for the first time will make you a believer!

Gestational diabetes is becoming much more common nowadays, so be sure to speak with your doctor about your concerns and look into getting tested. By not controlling gestational diabetes, you are putting the health of yourself and your baby in jeopardy. A physician can give you prescription medication safe for pregnancy and good dietary suggestions.

If you are a diabetic and you are trying to conceive a baby, visit a preconception diabetes clinic. Women have diabetes may have problems conceiving or carrying a baby and these clinics can give you valuable advice about foods, diets, and medications to assist you in having a healthy pregnancy.
