Story
My wife Alex and I, together with our good friend Damian Guy, are taking on the challenge of the Race to the Stones on 11 July 2026. We will be attempting to cover the 100km route non-stop along the Ridgeway, Britain’s oldest road.
Starting in Lewknor near Watlington, we will be passing through our village in Streatley-on-Thames before finally finishing by the 5,000-year-old Avebury Standing Stones.
We are taking on this challenge in support of two charities very close to our hearts, inspired by our amazing Dads.
My Dad, Peter, now 89 years young, has been living with Parkinson's disease for over 10 years. He has been facing this incurable condition with his usual gusto and positivity—staying active, participating in therapeutic trials, and, as always, teaming up with Mum (Freda) to help everyone else in any way they can.
Alex's Dad, Tony McGeorge, would have turned 80 the week of the Race to the Stones. He lived with dementia for 7 years but gave Alex her incredible sense of adventure and determination, which she has proudly shared with me and our whole family.
So, it seems only fitting to take on Race to the Stones in support of Parkinson's UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK to help fund their essential work to seek out cures for both of these diseases.
For those who have known us for a long time, you will know we are not strangers to endurance events. However, Alex and I are starting our training from a very low base. With only three good knees between us, we will be relying on inspiration from our Dads, plenty of grit and determination, and our team spirit with Damian to get us over the line.
100km non-stop in under 24 hours? That sounds like our kind of fun.
Thank you so much for supporting the three of us in our challenge.
