Raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK and Parkinson’s UK

Story

Alex, Dave Illingworth and Damian Guy are attempting Race to the Stones on 11 July 2026. It is 100km non-stop along the Ridgeway, starting in Watlington and finishing at Avebury Stone Circle.

Alex’s Dad (Tony McGeorge) would have turned 80, the week of Race to the Stones. Tony lived with Alzheimer’s for 7 years. Tony gave Alex her incredible sense of adventure and determination which she has shared with our family.

Dave’s Dad, Peter, now 89, has been living with Parkinson's disease for over 10 years. He has been facing this incurable condition with his usual gusto and positivity—staying active, participating in therapeutic trials, and, as always, teaming up with Mum (Freda) to help everyone else in any way they can.

So, it seems only fitting to take on Race to the Stones in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK to help fund their essential work to seek out cures for both of these diseases.

For those that have known any of the three of us for a long time you will know we are not strangers to endurance events. However, Dave and Alex are starting from a very low fitness base. With only three good knees between them, they will be relying on inspiration from their dads, plenty of grit and determination, and team spirit with Damian, to get us over the line. When they originally entered they knew they were too unfit to run it all and instead thought they would walk it, with a sprinkle of running. Sadly, Alex’s knee means no running.

100km in 24 hrs? That sounds like their kind of fun.

If you are able to support their chosen charities, thank you, the team are very grateful - unfortunately any donations have to be done separately for each charity.

Thank you for supporting the team in their challenge!
