Story

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Family Support Trust is the oldest Fire and Rescue charity in the UK, offering assistance to Service personnel and retired firefighters and their families whenever required. I am asking for donations, however small, to help this charity continue to provide a range of support services to those who need it most. There are some incredible stories of the work they have done and are doing on their website here:

On 22 May 2022 I intend to begin walking the Cape Wrath Trail, regarded as one of the most demanding of Britain's long distance hikes. I have done this before; in 2019 I successfully completed it in 18 days. This time I am planning some changes to that. I will walk from north to south, the reverse of the traditional way. I am also expecting to do it in a much faster time, with a ten-day target in mind.

The Cape Wrath Trail is not an officially recognised UK National Trail; the route connects a variety of paths, passes and valleys, picking an unmarked way through some of Scotland's most remote and unforgiving areas. The Trail has many variations along its length, forming a winding and challenging path that connects Fort William to the most northwesterly point of mainland Britain, the lighthouse at Cape Wrath. Borne out of many traditional drover's tracks, the route often follows historical rights of way that date back hundreds of years. These once provided the only means for crofters to move themselves and their animals around the rugged landscape of the Scottish Highlands. During the trek I will cover around 230 miles, wild camping and using bothies where available.
