We fight for a world without iron overload to prevent serious illness and save lives

Story

I was diagnosed with the ilness back in 2011 when I was 18. I thought I was just tired after school but it was not that. I found out that it is a genetic illness that previous family members have lost their lives to.. This was not figured out until having tests completed. After I had multiple blood tests and found out I was diagnosed with Haemochromatosis It was made clear to the family that it is hereditary. 78% of my family have been diagnosed with the disorder and all have started treatment and all family members have improved their health conditions and day to day living because of this. I found out I had this illness just because I was falling asleep after school and after sport. It is amazing how something can be hidden but just because I wanted to keep my mum happy I went to get blood tests and then found out that I have a disorder that is life threatening not just to me but to my family. The Specialist said to me “ because you got checked, we have checked your father and you have saved his life” due to the disorder being with him for over 60+ years. After hearing this I could not think of anything better than to raise the awareness for the disorder and also represent this amazing charity in the Marathon.
