The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

I am an Optometrist and in my work I meet people with various visual needs. We can take our sight for granted and imagining how we would live without the sense of sight is a scary thought.

Guide Dogs do a great job at training dogs to give visually impaired people their independence back and lobbying for the rights of visually impaired and blind people.

In the practices I work in there will be a guess the name of the puppy competition. I've also planned a "Walk for a hot dog" walk on Portstewart Strand in the summer to help raise funds. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page @ John Laverty Opticians for more info.

The cycle is through London to Surrey and back again, finishing in Hyde Park. There will be some Olympic worthy big climbs and there will be over 27,000 other cyclists on the roads, so the training has begun.

If you can spare a few quid it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
