Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

Swimming 100 metres is a real challenge for me. I used to be a good swimmer, but when I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in 2001, I found the pressure of deep water took my breath away. I did not swim for about 15 years.

Then I spent a holiday in Swansea, staying at the Dragon - a hotel with a fantastic swimming pool; the far wall is completely covered with a mural of Swansea Bay - you really think you’re there!

Jayne, the kind receptionist explained that there was no deep end in the pool - it never went above 1.1 metres in depth. I was so scared as I lowered myself in, stepping  gingerly down the access ladder - but before I knew it, my feet had touched the ground. I’ve taken things slowly, but can now swim a length in good style breaststroke.

I’ve still got a way to go as 100 metres is about 6 lengths, but I am having swimming lessons at Windsor Leisure Pool to make sure I can meet my challenge.
