Story

On 2nd October Chris, Thomas and Jonathan Carter will be participating in the Velo Vosges Challenge 2008. We have formed two teams of four with Simon, Ben & Tamsyn Derrick, Will Goodison and Eleanor Wratten; and will be cycling in relays covering 500 miles in 3 days from the North of France to Alsace in the East, near the border of , going over theVosgesMountains.

We have got the gear (including the Lycras!) and training is well under way for what is going to be a huge challenge for us all. With your help we can meet our fundraising target of £2000 and help make our challenge worthwhile.

100% of the sponsorship raised will be given to our designated charities, including:

Cancer Research UK

Wessex Heart Foundation

BrainsTrust

Three charities very close to our hearts and minds.

In January 08 Hilary Carter sadly developed a brain tumour leaving her locked in her own body, unable to communicate. BrainsTrust is a charitable trust dedicated to improving proactive care for brain tumour sufferers and providing co-ordinated support in their search for treatment, through addressing the lack of coordinated support and lack ofwide strategy for the treatment of, and research in, brain cancer. They explore the availability of treatment – worldwide, raise awareness and are proactive, not reactive.

Wessex Heartbeat is one of the region's major charities and exists to support the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre, one of the 's leading heart treatment centres. Since 1992, supporters have enabled Wessex Heartbeat to raise over £11m which has been used to help ensure that the best possible care is provided to more than 20,000 patients treated at the centre each year (Chris Carter being one of them!). In the , cardiovascular disease causes nearly 40% of all deaths annually in the . This sadly means that at some time, most of us will be affected by this disease whether it is ourselves, our loved ones or our colleagues.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Challenge Adventure Charities gets your money faster and, if you’re ataxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many thanks for your support.
