Story

Caterham Sport: KM’s For St Catherine’s

Here at Caterham Sport we cannot help but be inspired by events both inside and outside of our local community to ‘do our bit’.

So on this first day of May we are launching:

‘KM’s for St Catherine’s’

where we will attempt to run/walk/cycle all the way to Tanzania before the end of May.

To cover the massive 10,975km to Tanzania, we have broken it down to a slightly less-daunting 354km per day. However, as much we at Caterham Sport LOVE our exercise, we feel pretty certain that we can only do it with your help!

We would therefore love to invite EVERYONE in the Caterham School community to JOIN IN and contribute to our KM covered!

St Catherine’s Hospice provides hospice care for terminally ill people and their families, friends and carers, across West Sussex and East Surrey. A fundraising link with St Catherine’s Hospice is already well-established at Caterham and Caterham Sport has even more reason to continue this link as Nicola Waterman, mum of our very own Head of Lacrosse, Pippa, works as a community palliative nurse practitioner.

Mrs Waterman recently let us know just how tough of a time the Hospice is having, as well as their inspirational efforts to continue to deliver the very best service that they can do their patients and their families:

The impact of coronavirus on charities across the UK is profound. At St Catherine’s we have already seen a severe impact on our funding, from many fundraising events having to be cancelled, or indefinitely postponed, to the closure of all our

charity shops. However, we are determined not to let our community down at this most crucial of times. Our expert nurses, therapists and doctors are still providing care in the hospice and visiting people in their own homes, and our nursing and bereavement teams continue to offer advice and reassurance via our phone lines.

Everyone is going above and beyond to make sure we continue to be there for our community. But we can only continue to do this with your support. And we need you now more than ever. By fundraising for St Catherine’s at this difficult time, you are helping to make sure that we are on hand to provide the best possible end of life care for people across our community. Thank you so much for helping make our work possible.

How Can You Support Us?

1. Join our Caterham School Strava community to officially log your KM ran/walked/cycled.

2. Tweet your KM each day @CaterhamSport or email: Jaclyn.leach@caterhamschool.co.uk.

Photos of you completing your KMs would be MUCH appreciated!

3. Visit our Just Giving page and donate any amount of money that you could spare, and let’s see how much we can raise for St Catherine’s Hospice.

We would absolutely love it if the whole school community could come together and contribute to this amazingly worthwhile cause. So please join us in combining our love of exercise with the opportunity to help make the lives of those involved with St Catherine’s Hospice so much better.

THANKS, EVERYONE!
