Story
I will be running the Manchester Half Marathon on the 15th October. I hoping to raise some funds for the Gunjur Project to help towards their Health and Wellbeing Centre that is currently being built and due to open at the beginning of 2024.
As a family we are travelling to Gambia on the 1st November for a month. We will be volunteering at the Gunjur Project for the first two weeks. Our Children Ava (10), Autumn (8) and Harry (5) will also be travelling with us and will be helping the community and schools in any way we can. I hope to be able to share more about the project on my social media to show how any donations have helped.
The Gunjur Project are currently working to develop a specialised health and wellbeing centre at their community hub.The building work has started and they are seeking financial support to complete this much needed facility.
"One of Africa’s smallest countries, the Gambia is also one of Africa’s poorest countries. The United Nations Development Programme’s 2016 Human Development Index ranked the country 173rd out of 188 countries. In 2015, calculations revealed that more than 60% of the overall population lives in poverty, while a little under half of the population live in poverty conditions.Approximately three quarters of the rural population is classified as poor. Underlying the high poverty rates is the countries relative lack of economic diversity, which makes The Gambia highly vulnerable to increasingly erratic rainfall, food price volatility and financial crises. We believe prevention should always be at the forefront action and we believe the development of a health and well being center will set to educate people how to make positive changes that can determine their future"
