Africa faces a double burden of infectious and chronic diseases. While infectious diseases still account for at least 69% of deaths on the continent, age specific mortality rates from chronic diseases as a whole are actually higher in sub Saharan Africa than in virtually all other regions of the world, in both men and women. Over the next ten years the continent is projected to experience the largest increase in death rates from cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and diabetes.

With limited understanding at community level of these silent killers we aim for the health and wellbeing center to proactively work to educate and promote healthy changes in diet and lifestyle. Working with our partners we will arrange regular testing for diabetes and hypertension.

Gunjur Project Association & Rage Fitness and Wellbeing Group UK have joined together to develop a health and wellbeing center.

Our health and wellbeing coordinators will support exercise programs within the center to promote imporved cardiovascular health.

We will take the wellbeing programs into the schools to encourage young people to take action today so their future may not account for the projected future death rates due to chronic illness.

At our outdoor kitchen using the smokless oven we will promote better understanding of the hideen dangers in our foods.

Our first health and wellbeing coordinator in the Gambia is now recruited and has enrolled onto the gym instructor course.

The first stage of the construction is complete. We now need to roof the building, electrical fit, plaster, windows, doors, flooring.
