Story
Two years ago I completed the Macmillan Mighty Hike with my dear friend Sarah Bretz, in memory of her father and with Melanie Holden whom had lost her husband to cancer. Training for this walking marathon was a very cathartic process and completing the course and raising much needed funds for this very worthwhile charity meant something positive for both of them.
Last September my mother Pat Knowles died of acute myeloid leukaemia. Mum was so full of life with so much more to give (she seriously considered attempting the marathon with us 2 years ago aged 79 !) Sarah and I promised each other to undertake this marathon together again since which Sarah’s aunt has also be diagnosed with cancer and is very ill. Like my Mother she has always been a complete force to be reckoned with and has so much more living to do - this terrible disease is cheating her of many, many years.
My dearest friend Sarah Barker, without whom life would be so much tougher, and Susanne Edwards are also joining us on the Macmillan Mighty Hike. Sarah’s amazing husband lives with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is an inspiration to us all.
