Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

We are running the LONDON MARATHON 2017 in memory of our wonderful Grandma, who we recently lost on the 18th October 2016, aged 90.

We are truly blessed to have grown up with such an inspirational lady who was able to give us so much love and kindness.

Throughout our Grandmas journey in life as well as her many accomplishments, she also experienced many illnesses including a damaged heart (from the age of 10 caused by contracting Whooping Cough), Bowel Cancer and Chrohn’s Disease but always battled on without a complaint, she was an incredibly strong willed and independent lady who told us she had lived an incredible life with no regrets... How wonderful is that! A true inspiration to us both!

Our wonderful Grandma spent her final tough weeks in Longridge Hospital where she was cared for by exceptional nurses and doctors, but whilst we visited every day we saw just how many of the elderly in a similar position to our Grandma didn't have any family or even one single visitor. We were reminded constantly by the nurses how rare it was for them to see someone with such a large caring family around them constantly. This made us feel incredibly sad, but also extremely grateful we had been so lucky to have had such an amazing lady in our lives for so long. Our Grandma sadly passed away on the 18th of October with us all by her side, something that we felt somewhat comforted by knowing that she hadn’t gone alone.

As sisters we have decided to run the London Marathon on Sunday the 23rd of April 2017 in support of Age UK. We want to raise as much money as physically possible to donate to Age UK.

Age UK are a very special charity and whilst our Grandma had a very large loving family around her we were very concerned for those people who grow older with few or even no family at all. The charity “enable older people and their carers to have support to remain independent and to live interesting and fulfilled lives. They offer a range of services to help older people across Lancashire and the UK to make more of their lives. The care services are available to help frailer older people or those who feel lonely or isolated.”

It is extremely important Age UK get sponsors and are able to continue their amazing charity work! Our older generation has done so much for everyone and they shouldn’t be forgotten when they need people the most.

Please sponsor us today... We are dedicating the next 6 months of our lives, to train and raise as much awareness to help elderly people who have no one, to have a little bit of support in their last few months or weeks of their life.
