The Coronavirus pandemic has caused those experiencing domestic abuse to be trapped in dangerous and distressing situations, with seriously concerning reports that domestic abuse killings more than doubled during the lockdown. Helpline and online services are providing vital support to people affected who are able to access help, with charities experiencing a surge in service users.
Refuge is the UK’s largest domestic abuse charity supporting victims and survivors of violence and abuse. They offer a range of services, which they are continuing to provide during the pandemic, including emergency temporary accommodation for women and children fleeing abuse, independent advocacy, culturally-specific services and the national domestic abuse helpline.
