Story
What started as a jokey conversation with my friend back in April has somehow turned into me actually running the 2020 London Marathon, and as terrifying as that seems as I write this, I couldn’t be more excited or honoured to be doing it for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
GOSH cared for my sister for the first 18 years of her life due to her incurable heart condition, and in 2011 they gave her the greatest gift of all. Doctors had told us that without a heart transplant, my beautiful sister only had 1 year to live. One year. But in November 2011, GOSH performed the life saving and life changing operation, and we have never looked back. Ella’s quality of life has improved tenfold, and I have been able to create so many memories with her as my best friend that never would have been possible without this incredible hospital.
I am also very lucky to know so many other families that have GOSH to thank for giving so many children a second chance. Every single day, 619 children and young people arrive at GOSH for treatment. Six hundred and nineteen, let that sink in. And every single day they rely on charitable fundraising to be able to provide the treatment those children need.
No amount of miles could ever show how grateful I am to Great Ormond Street Hospital. No amount of miles could equal the amazing moments I’ve lived and continue to live with my sister by my side. And no amount of miles could even begin to thank them for the countless families they have saved worldwide. But I’m thinking that 26.2 is a pretty good place to start.
Any support, no matter how big or small, would be so so so appreciated. Thank you in advance. Let’s do this.
