Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac) is the only hospice in Staffordshire supporting Children, Young Adults & Adults. Care is given to patients who are living with a life-limiting illness at our two sites and in the community. We also provide support for patients families and their carers.

Story

My name is Chris Bevans and this year I will be challenging myself to cycle approximately 240 miles over 2 weekends in May. I will be cycling from Coast to Coast on the weekend of 10th to 12th May, Whitehaven to Tyne-mouth along with my uncle, Chris Nelson, and with my parents acting as support crew. Then the following weekend I will be cycling 101 miles in the Dougie Mac cycling event.

I am doing this because the Douglas MacMillan Hospice deserves all the support they can get. The care that they provide is second to none and I witnessed this first hand when they were caring for my Nan (Clarice Bosson) last year as she bravely fought her battle with cancer. Sadly we lost her on 12th September 2018 leaving a hole in our family, but we all take great comfort knowing that the final weeks of her life were as comfortable as they could be and that is down to the care and support shown by all of the staff to her and all of our family in this special place.

I first realised that this was a special place when my Nan was asked where she would like to be at the end of her life and without hesitation she said she would want to be in the Dougie Mac. As I visited her there in the final week of her life she was singing the praises of all the staff without any exceptions, I promised her then that I would do something in her name to say thank you which I believe made her very happy. So please support me in my challenge and in turn support this fantastic place and all the amazing work they do. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chris-bevans2
