Worthing Speakabout - Self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities

We are fundraising for this fantastic group to be able to run, so that they can keep enabling people with learning disabilities to speak up for themselves and campaign on issues that are important.

Charity Registration No. 276669

Story

For the first time in history I will be travelling from John O Groats to the other end of the country – Lands End, travelling just by public transport and using a wheelchair, for four days, to raise awareness about access issues.
My name is Chris Button, I have a learning disability, I was born 8th March 1951, I have lived in Worthing for over thirty years.
I have planned this trip independently and I am going to be doing it on my own. I have chosen to do this trip using a wheelchair, because nobody has done this particular challenge before to my knowledge, using buses and trains. I campaign for transport to be more accessible with my self-advocacy group Worthing Speakabout – I hope my trip will raise staff awareness about the need for transport and hotels to be accessible for people with disabilities.
I will also be filming the challenge!
I will be collecting sponsorship to raise money for Worthing Speakabout. Worthing Speakabout is a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities that I’m part of. The group helps us to have our voice heard – speak up, complain and access our rights - we need to raise funds to pay our rent and meet.
