I wanted to create a challenge to celebrate my 40th birthday and to keep me feeling young! Having previously completed Ironman, I thought a '40' themed triathlon challenge would be a great option. So the concept of 4km swim, 400km bike and 40km run, to be completed in 40 hours was born. Note, 40 units of alcohol was also considered as part of the challenge, but my maturer side decided this was daft! The winter weather may well be the toughest factor to deal with.

My determination to succeed at sport over the years came from my mother, who passed away last year. My mum defied muscular dystrophy to enjoy her life, although it was a real struggle for her. In her memory I'd like to continue to raise funds for the research and support offered by the MD Campaign.
