4 Events - 3 Events - Norwich 100(m) Cycle, Cotswolds Way (102 mile walk), Great North Run (half marathon), 2010 London Marathon (pending successful entries) · 25 April 2010

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

30/10/09 - News!! We received a cheque for £250 from Aviva who matched the total raised to date. This took us to £500 which is a great total. Bad news is that we were both unsuccessful in our attempt to get into the London Marathon. So the page ends here. Thanks to all who sponsored us so far. It will remain open if you forgot to.

20/9/09 - We did it! Kerry finished in 2:09, a great result considering the foot damaged on the recent walk. Chris finished in 1:47. Thanks to all who have sponsored us. You can still sponsor us now, to those who haven't managed to sponsor us yet.

07/06/09 - Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. We are extremely grateful to anyone who has sponsored us in the past and hope you will continue to sponsor us in the future. We do realise that we do a lot of charity events and don’t want people to feel obliged to give, or get to the stage where we are becoming pains by doing too much. We’ve tried to bulk the events together so we aren’t asking too frequently. The events this fund raising covers are: -

* 7th June 09 – Norwich 100 – 100 mile cycle ride (Chris only as Kerry working in India) - Complete

* 29th August 09 - Cotswolds Way - 102 mile walk over 6 days - Complete

* 20th September 09 – Great North Run (the biggest half marathon in the world) - The main event!!

* Not certain (hence the 3 or 4 events at the start of the page. It's unlikely we'll get in to the London Marathon 25th April 2010. We’ve both entered the ballot for places and agreed to donate our funds to charity if we don't make it. I met a friend recently who has been unsuccessful for 4 years running and his only hope, if he doesn't get in again this year, is you get a guaranteed place the 6th time round)

Past Fund Raising & Why Alzheimers? - We’ve raised lots of money in the past for Cancer Research, British Heart Foundation and Leukaemia Research. For 2009 we’ve chosen Alzheimers Society after lots of news coverage with people like John Suchet feeling he has lost his wife to this, Chris's Grandma also suffers from a version of it.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alzheimers Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. It really is an excellent system though if you are worried about entering your card details online feel free to send us a cheque payable to me (and I’ll put your money on with my card so you can see it on our page.

Past fund raising update

Last year we raised £1455.20 after doing a quad of events. Norwich 100 bike ride, the Suffolk Coast ride, the Great North Run, & a 193 mile Coast to Coast walk (for more info see http://www.justgiving.com/chrisandkerryvarley & http://www.justgiving.com/kerryvarley1)

In 2007 we raised £1400 by cycling 100 miles in the Norwich 100 ride. £1100 went to Cancer Research and £300 went to British Heart Foundation (http://www.justgiving.com/chrisjvarley). Kerry raised her money using a paper form plus a number of organised charity events.

Back to this year

We appreciate all sponsorship. Please feel free to tell us if you are doing anything and we'll happily donate to your chosen cause.

Thanks

Chris & Kerry xx

Updates

16/09/09 - Newcastle here we come. We'll be heading up there on Saturday morning.

14/09/09 - Cotswolds Way complete. Probably bit off a bit more than we could chew by trying to do the walk in 6 days. We did it but created a bit of a repeat of last year when Chris injured himself on the Coast to Coast. This year Kerry got bad tendon damage in her right foot. Kerry will now have to do the Great North Run in the same way Chris did last year. Unable to do any training before followed by lots of pain killers, lots of freeze spray, and a tight bandage.

09/08/09 - Cotswolds Way. We are all booked & ready to go. Start the walk on 29th August 2009.

08/06/09 – Norwich100 Update – Chris said It was hell. Driving rain and a strong head wind on the North Norfolk coast.
