Story
The Artemis Charitable Foundation has nominated Mercy Corps to benefit from the event. The money raised through this event will fund Mercy Corps' groundbreaking tuberculosis (TB) project in Pakistan which will identify and treat 34,000 people over three years. The improvements to health infrastructure and the training of health professionals will indirectly benefit a further 6.3 million people. This is the biggest TB project Mercy Corps has ever undertaken and the biggest ever project carried out by Mercy Corps in Pakistan.
This incredible project will not go ahead without your help and together we need to raise £150k. By reaching this target Mercy Corps will be able to secure a £1.7 million grant from the European Commission to fund the rest of this TB programme.
TB is a disease of poverty. Lack of basic health services, poor nutrition and inadequate living conditions all contribute to the spread of TB and its impact upon the community. Pakistan is one of the few Asian countries where poverty has worsened in the past decade. Around a third live below the poverty line, though this figure rises to 40% in rural areas. Two thirds of those affected by tuberculosis are 15-59 year olds, the most economically productive citizens.
The challenge is on!
