Story
Cranfield has joined teams across the UK in Phil Packer's inclusive mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge Row Britannia 2020.
Universities across the UK have been asked to help raise funds for Sport Relief and mental health charity partners. Staff and students are invited to take part and row to reach Cranfield’s target of 2,020 miles / 3251 kilometres and raise £3,000.
Why not come along to the university gym and give it a go, row as much or as little as you want and boost your fitness. There are also donation buckets at the gym or you can donate to our JustGiving campaign.
FAQs
I'm an existing member of the gym – how do I register my rowing as part of the challenge?
Row your miles / kilometres on one of the rowers located in the gym and take a photo of your mileage. Take your photo to the Sport Centre reception who will then log your distance on our record sheet. Do this every time you row to make sure every mile counts!
I'm not a gym member. Can I take part?
Yes, come to the Sports Centre Reception and ask the receptionist to log your distance and take your donation. The rower will be located in the Centre’s reception and accessible 7.30am-10.00pm on weekdays and 10.30 am-8pm pm on weekends.
Where are the rowing machines
located?
There are rowing machines in the university gyms and a rower will also be available 12-2pm in central areas around Cranfield campus throughout the challenge.
Can anyone participate?
Yes, anyone over 16 can participate. By participating, you are declaring you are fit to undertake physical activity. Please be aware Cranfield does not accept responsibility or liability for any loss or damage, or for any death or personal injury, arising out of any activity.
I've never used a rowing machine, can I still participate?
Yes, rowing is an adaptive sport open to all. If you are unsure, please speak to a member of the sports staff who will be able to give you some guidance.
Can I transfer miles from a rowing machine at my local gym?
Yes. Take a picture of the rowing console which shows the mileage you have completed and email it to sports@cranfield.ac.uk with the heading an email titled Row Britannia. Then donate online through our
JustGiving campaign or come along to the Sports Centre on Cranfield campus with your donation and the Sports Centre Reception can help.
