Story
In the first week of June we are paddleboarding 25 miles across the English Channel to France to raise money for the RNLI, a charity close to all of our hearts.
We hope to complete the 25 miles in under 10 hours... And we think we'll be the first people ever to complete the crossing wearing RNLI yellow wellies!
100% of our money raised will go to the RNLI as we have been generously supported by Red Paddle Co - the best manufacturers of inflatable SUPs - who are providing our awesome boards.
Our team:
Seamus Hogan – elder statesman of the group at 47. Weight – a shade under 90 kg; Works for International SOS (Let’s hope we don’t need to call…); Walked across the sea en route to the North Pole a decade ago – now wants to see if he can paddleboard across. Definitely a paddle novice, with an overabundance of enthusiasm. Supported by a wife and x2 kids.
Ben Covey, age: 40, weight: 90kgs. Works full time in finance but when able to escape the office, loves nothing more than spending time on the water - paddleboarding on calm seas or kitesurfing when the storms come through. Kitesurfing the Channel no longer an option (banned!) so is keen to take on the paddleboarding challenge before that is banned too! Married with three young children.
Tim Wakefield, age: 41, weight: 80kgs, skill: 2, enthusiasm: 10. Works in publishing, loves being in, on and around the water. Has not yet ventured beyond the Solent on his paddleboard and feels some trepidation about trying to get to France. Leaves behind one wife and two girls.
Denny Akers - age 42 and the lightweight of the group at 75kg. Self employed. Unhappiest at his desk, happiest in the Alps pointing downhill on a board or a bike; now looking forward to tackling the moguls of the sea on a paddleboard. Leaving at home a supportive wife and two children.
We are so grateful for your support - thank you.
