Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Staff from Cheltenham Town FC including Assistant Manager Russ Milton, Head of Medical Gavin Crowe and U18’s Manager Peter Haynes will be joined by family friend Barry Roberts and Academy volunteer Gary Haynes on a cycling trip across the Alps to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Russ, Gav, Pete and Barry will be cycling, with Gary as the support driver.

They will be flying out to the Italian Alps on the 15th June 2019 before commencing 4 days in the saddle across the Italian Alps.

Their ride will see us take on famous climbs and routes of the Giro d’Italia, including the infamous Stelvio Pass. Ultimately, they will be doing over 200km in the saddle and climbing over 30,000ft!

They are wanting to raise money for Acorns because they are the club’s charity partner. Furthermore, having all visited Acorns, they are amazed at the work they do - not just for children in need, but also their families.

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides vital care for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions across the region.

The children and young people that Acorns helps are not expected to reach adulthood and require specialist care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Acorns operates three hospices including Acorns for the Three Counties in Worcester, which cares for children and families across Cheltenham and Gloucestershire; Acorns in Birmingham, based in Selly Oak; and Acorns in the Black Country, based in Walsall.

The hospices provide a home-from-home environment where children take part in a variety of fun and therapeutic activities, from arts and crafts sessions to hydrotherapy. Children visit Acorns for respite, short breaks, end of life and emergency care.

As well as care for children, Acorns offers support for their families. Acorns provides a mix of support groups which meet regularly so family members can take part in a variety of activities, helping them to express their feelings, build friendships with others in similar situations and reduce isolation.

In the last year, Acorns has cared for over 870 children and supported more than 1,140 families, including those who are bereaved.
