Story

Myself and a team of Co-op colleagues from across the UK are gathering in April to trek across Nepal and up to Everest base camp. In total we will be trekking for 12 days with it taking 8 days to reach base camp and 4 days to return. This is part of a national fundraising effort by 20+ Co-op colleagues. We have all chosen our own charities to support through this amazing challenge and have pledged to raise a minimum of £5000 each! This trek is graded challenging to extreme because we will be trekking for 12 consecutive days over rough terrain, we will be exposed to higher altitudes each day, (average 4000m and up to a maximum of 5554m) and will stay overnight in basic teahouses. Each day’s trek is between 5 and 8 hours and we will cover approximately 10-15km per day. Temperatures will range between 20 to 5 degrees in the day with temperatures at night ranging between 0 to -10 degrees.

The charity I have chosen to support is Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. Ive been supporting Bluebell Wood for the last 3 years and Ive previously trekked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and Snowdon to raise money for them (So Everest is quite a jump!). Bluebell Wood care for children and young adults whose lives are sadly just too short, both in their own homes and in there hospice in Sheffield. Being a parent myself, Its unthinkable to think you’d ever be in that position with a poorly child where you’d require a hospice. After visiting the hospice a few years ago and witnessing the amazing support they provide to the children and families i cant do enough for this brilliant charity and that’s what’s driving me to do the most physically challenging event of my life.

Bluebell Wood support parents in making magical memories with their child, whether they have years, months, weeks or days together. Bluebell Wood is a home from home for families facing the toughest of times, with a comfy lounge and beautiful gardens. There’s also plenty of fun activities for children to try, including soft play, arts and crafts, music therapy and much more. Every day, Bluebell wood need to raise £13,125 to keep there doors open, and only around 10% of there funding is from the government. Everything else is paid for by donations.

Thank you for taking the time to read my page. Please help me raise as much money as I can for this amazing charity!
