Story

Tom was found collapsed at work.

He was diagnosed as having suffered an aeortic valve dissection and rushed to the Royal Papworth Hospital where following several hours of emergency surgery his life was saved. Tom spent several weeks in their care before returning home.

Tom, his family, friends and colleagues are incredibly grateful for the care and support he received and are walking the Suffolk Costal Path to raise funds for Royal Papworth so they can carry on saving more lives.

We are walking the route just over a year to the day Tom collapsed and thanks to Papworth Tom is walking with us.

Royal Papworth Charity exists to support the ground-breaking work of Royal Papworth Hospital. With increasing pressures on the NHS, the Charity plays a vital role in ensuring that the Hospital continues to provide the highest standards of care by investing in staff development, improving the Hospital environment for our patients and supporting research into new ways of treating heart and lung disease. Our patients, their families and the staff are at the heart of everything we do, this is all made possible by the generosity of our supporters.

About the charity

We support the work of Royal Papworth Hospital as the UK’s leading centre of excellence for the treatment and diagnosis of cardiothoracic disease, to provide additional amenities for our patients and their families and to fund Papworth’s pioneering research activity and vision for the future.
