Story
Gill Miller
This page is to the memory of my mum, Gill Miller, who died peacefully but suddenly on December 15th. Water Aid is one of the charities chosen for donations at her funeral. Early in 2009 she visited Africa for the first time and she took great interest in my tales of visits to developing countries for work. Mum said that she was going to be the principal fundraiser for my effort - so we are grateful to everyone, whether you knew mum or not, for your donation.
The London Marathon. The BIG one.
Now, I'm probably showing my age when I say that the last marathon I did was in 1982. Yes, 28 years ago. I was fairly young, I have to say. Anyway, the time I did then was 3 hours and 32 minutes. But after years of cake and crisps, I wonder if I can do anything close to that this time round. That's what I am aiming for. To beat the time I did then. If I do it, I will add 10% to whatever is raised as a tribute to the best mum in the world.
The cause I am running for is fantastic. If you don't know about Water Aid they work to provide access to safe and clean water. It is about more than just digging wells. It's also about the politics of water. Who owns it. Whether people have to pay for it. And how the powerless can be excluded from it. Have a look at their web site.
Back to the job in hand. There's going to be some long, dark nights jogging round London parks over the next few months.
Thanks for your support.
