Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been given a skydive for my 16th Birthday. The skydive will be at 15,000ft, the highest you can skydive without oxygen.  I am also afraid of heights.  So, I thought I would use this as an opportunity to raise some money for Kayleigh's charity - The Mustard Tree (NB/ all proceeds will be given to the charity via this page - no money will be deducted for the skydive as my parents have paid for this).

Kayleigh has gone through a lot over the past few years and I know that she would not have coped so well without the support of her family, friends and The Mustard Tree.  So please help me to say thank you to them for helping her.  Kayleigh has kindly put her story into words below:-

I just want to say a huge thank you Daniel for offering to do your skydive whilst raising money for the Mustard Tree at Derriford Hospital. I wish I could show you the difference this will make to cancer patients and their families.  I on behalf of all the wonderful friends that I have made on this journey thank you, thank you for being such a selfless and brave man. You are awesome and will totally smash this skydive.

Here is my story………

After finding a lump in my breast in July 2017 at the young age of 29 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. After a successful operation I had the cancerous lump removed and went on to embark on 15 sessions of radiotherapy. Although this time was incredibly tough for me I remained positive and began every day with a smile. I could not have gone through this tough and challenging time without the help of the Mustard Tree.

Whether it was the offer of a cup of tea after I finished my treatment or just a little chat and few words of encouragement they were amazing.

The following year during my 12 month check -up in August 2018 at the Breast Unit, Pre cancerous cells were found in my other breast.

This meant further surgery and 15 more sessions of radiotherapy. I am currently undergoing my second cycle of radiotherapy and am due to complete this on 22nd January 2019. From which date I will formally be in remission (for the 2nd time and hopefully forever).

I have now become an advocate for young people who are affected by cancer and am working very closely with the Mustard Tree to ensure that this is supported.

When you are diagnosed with cancer, the physical aspects of having this disease are much easier to deal with than the emotional implications.

All of this was made so much easier thanks to the support of the staff and resources at the Mustard Tree at Derriford Hospital. They offer a safe, non-clinical place to sit and think, make friends or just sit and talk. They  have helped me massively in my journey and I want to thank them in any way I can.

Lots of Love

Kayleigh xx
