Story
After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. -
Nelson Mandela
After climbing Kilimanjaro last year, I found that this quote is true. Standing on the world’s highest freestanding mountain was an emotional and exhilarating moment. Together with 22 Accenture colleagues from around the world, I set out on a mission many months earlier. We didn’t know each other but had a common goal in mind: learning about the needs of the country we were travelling to, raising as much money as possible for VSO and therewith supporting the local communities in Kenya and Tansania. After completing the fundraising challenge, we headed for the next challenge: the climb itself! On October, 10 2011 at around 8am, we reached the summit and looked down at the world from 5.895m asl. And we didn’t stand there alone but with our families, friends and colleagues who supported us during the many months leading up to the challenge. It was a moment of sheer happiness, satisfaction and the believe that anything is possible.
This feeling is a feeling you never forget, a feeling which is addictive and which made me decide that combing travelling with supporting local communities, is a way of seeing the world which makes me truly happy. So when the chance came along to join yet another VSO Accenture Charity trek, I didn’t hesitate a moment but signed up immediately. This time I will be raising money for the work of VSO in Nepal. In Nepal, VSO focuses on the “Skills to succeed” program which aims at strengthening the abilities of disadvantaged women, men and young people to make a living. I believe that this is one of the most sustainable ways to support communities in developing countries and therefore I would like to support VSO in their ambition to improve the life of the people in Nepal.
To reach the challenging fundraising target which I have set myself, I need your help.
Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you and all the best,
Daniela
