My Dad was an incredible man. He had taken part in The London to Brighton bike ride to raise money for The British Heart Foundation every year since 1999 after receiving life saving heart surgery in 1998.

Last year (2023) he declared it would be his last ride (see my Dad's story below) and so like many times before, 1 week before his 70th Birthday, we set off to take part in the event that had become such a huge part of our family's lives. My Dad was so happy when he was cycling, even more so when he was cycling surrounded by his family and friends and the fact he was doing it to raise money for a cause that meant so much to him was an added bonus (that and the thought of other family and friends waiting at the finish line with a beer!) 

Heartbreakingly, my Dad never made it to that beer after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest at mile 24.

This year will be our hardest ride yet, cycling without him still feels surreal (that and the fact that we are now responsible for carrying our own spare inner tubes!) but we know he will be with us along the way. So this year we are Doing it for Dave. 

The BHF, who have been an incredible support to our family over the last year would also like to celebrate Dad and his huge achievements so if you are doing the bike ride this year please look out for his memory mile as you approach the finish line and please raise a glass to him in Brighton. 

I know that many people have sponsored my Dad throughout the years, but we would like to continue what he started last year and raise as much money for The BHF as possible as we know that it would have meant so much to him.
