Richard Butcher was a professional footballer with 341 senior appearances, he went through the youth set up with his home town football club Northampton Town before moving onto Kettering Town, Lincoln City, Peterborough, rushden and diamonds. Oldham .Notts County and Macclesfield.
Sadly Richard passed away in his sleep at home at a very young age of 29 on January 10th 2011. The reason as to Richard passing was never diagnosed sadly.
Being a local lad and with family still living in Northampton it’s was decided for 2 local Sunday football teams to play for a yearly trophy and so the Richard Butcher Cup started helping to raise money for good causes.
Unfortunately after a few years the teams folded but now 2 of those original coaches have come together to bring back the trophy, memory and raise money for charity.
On Tuesday 13th July a charity match between Harbourgh Town and Moulton FC we take place.
This will be at Harbourgh football ground
Market Harbourgh
LE16 9HF
Kick off at 7.30pm
Richards family and all those involved would like all donations to go to Great Ormond Street Hospital for children. The reason why this was chosen was due to children are the future and Richard was a fantastic loving son and so many of us connected to this having children of our own some who love and enjoy the game of football ⚽️⚽️
