Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Two years ago our close friend Claire's Dad died suddenly from thrombosis which left us all shocked and deeply saddened. In his honour we wish to raise money for Lifeblood, a charity close to Claire's heart, so as Josie is 6 months pregnant it is down to Dave, Benny and Paul to run the 5km this year (well Dave to run it and Paul and little Benny to walk it) so please give whatever you can, we are so grateful for all your support!
Lifeblood: The Thrombosis Charity wishes to increase awareness of thrombosis among the public and health professionals and to raise research funds to improve patient care through improved prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolic disease.
Over 25,000 patients in England die each year from thrombosis; this is more than the combined total of deaths from breast cancer, AIDS and traffic accidents, and more than twenty-five times the number who die from MRSA. It is a leading cause of death in the UK and when found in time can be treated as easily as with medication; but even better can be prevented with the help of doctors, hospital staff and public awareness. The charity only formed in 2003 (it is the main charity for thrombosis in the UK), so there is much more research and education that can be done to save the lives of many loved ones.
