I am running a 10k race this month - November 2021- a month that marks the two year anniversary of us losing Jonathan, Oliver’s Dad, to suicide. We love and miss him. I am doing this to raise awareness of mental health conditions and suicide and to help fight the stigma that surrounds them.
Mo running (part of Movember) who have organised the event do a lot of good work around men's health. You can find out more about them here: https://www.mo-running.com/
I would like the online donations from this run to go to a small charity called Quinn’s retreat, who promote and support the mental health of families bereaved by suicide by offering short respite breaks. They do so in memory of their own loved ones lost to suicide. Oliver and I have been fortunate enough to have benefited from this https://quinnsretreat.org.uk/
I will be giving any offline donations to the James Burke Foundation, a small charity set up by an ex- colleague of mine in memory of her son (who I remember as a child). The charity aims to promote the physical and mental health of people living with mental health problems through the provision of support, education, practical advice and grants to relevant projects. https://www.facebook.com/The-James-Burke-Foundation-2106818716265320/. (If you want to specifically give to this charity please contact me directly as I cant work out a way of sharing my just giving page with two charities debbie_purdon@yahoo.co.uk)
