CLEAN UP DECO OR NOT

Due to unforeseen circumstances HELL & BACK 2021 has been postponed to 2022. I am not going to let that stop me. Instead myself and two helpers are going to run a 13km route around Killruddery Estate and I will make sure that we get wet and mucky along the way.

I would like to thank sincerely Killruddery House And Gardens in Bray Co.Wicklow and the Meath family for permission to allow me to run on October 2nd.

Jessie my daughter wanted to clean me up after lockdown. In my mind there is no point at all as I am going to get all dirty on my challenge to participate in HELL & BACK on the 2nd of October to raise vital funds for Jack & Jill. Jack & Jill were so kind and helpful to us when Jessie was a baby going through her own HELL & BACK. Jack & Jill support got us through a very difficult time in our lives, so it is only fair that we try and repay the kindness by fundraising for a worthy cause.. Jessie is going to sit this one out as she has done hers. If you would like to donate and sponsor me for HELL & BACK , I would kindly ask for a maximum donation of €10. It would be great to have all friends and family sponsor me.

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation funds and provides
in-home nursing care for children with highly complex medical conditions up to
the age of six.  We also provide end of
life care for children under 6, regardless of the diagnosis. The Jack &
Jill Children’s Foundation must raise €4 million every year to fund our unique
home nursing care for sick children, aged 0-6 years.

The Jack & Jill Children's Foundation was set up in 1997
by Jonathan Irwin and his wife Mary Ann O'Brien (founder Lily O'Brien's
chocolates), in memory of their son Jack who suffered a brain trauma shortly
after birth that left him developmentally delayed and shattered the dreams and
hopes of his parents.

Today we have 389 children under our wing, right across the
country. These are children with highly complex medical and life-limiting
conditions, up to the age of six.  They
may be tube fed, oxygen dependent, take seizures and are on heavy medication
and require around the clock care. Their care needs are very high, with pieces
of medical equipment typically in the home. For their families this means
intensive care at home, and they need specialist help from Jack & Jill.

Life is uncertain for these children, their conditions are
rare, prognosis uncertain, hospital visits are frequent.  But what we know for sure is that they do
better at home, where their family want them, in their own home, in their own
community. 

Our parents are ordinary parents, facing extraordinary care
demands and they can do it, with support from Jack & Jill. The parent is
the primary carer, and we always respect that. Parents call the service the
‘gift of time’.  Time to allow the family
to do the normal things, like sleeping, shopping, work, school, normal family
routine, while their Jack & Jill child is well cared for at home by an
expert.

Every €18 raised provides 1 hour of home nursing care which
is spent locally to provide home respite care.
