On Friday 1st March I will be undertaking a Firewalk in order to try and raise some money for a Charity that is extremely close to mine and my family’s heart, Willen Hospice.

Willen Hospice is a registered charity that provides specialist care for people whose illness no longer responds to curative treatment. They provide specialist end-of-life care for adults, focusing on four key areas: specialist symptom control, emotional support, spiritual support and care for carers.

However and perhaps most importantly and one of the reasons for me doing the Firewalk is that the services provided by Willen are free of charge to all those they care for so they rely on donations all year round.

Often the most distressing aspect of living with life-limiting illnesses is the types of pain and symptoms which can arise. Their team of dedicated staff and volunteers give compassionate, specialist support to patients and their family members, to help deal with the physical and emotional effects of both their illness and treatments.

As some of you will already know our beautiful daughter Hayley spent the last few days of her life in Willen where the care she received was second to none. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the way the Doctors and Nurses cared for Hayley gave Nigel and I such comfort at a truly heartbreaking time and for this we will always be grateful.

It will perhaps not surprise any of you to know that this is something I have never done before and in order for me to feel that I could try and ask for donations I knew I had to do something that was completely out of my comfort zone, hence the Firewalk. Mind you now that I have signed up and committed myself to this, a run would seem to be a much easier option for me and my poor feet!!!
