 As many of you know I have been fund raising for my old school, the Royal Latin School, for the last 7 years and I am now Co-Chair of the Campaign Board.  It is a wonderful school, and has been a victim of its' own success, becoming one of the worst funded state schools in England as it is not seen to need help.  The school therefore decided to raise money for capital projects itself and has raised £5m to build the new science building called the Discovery Centre and is now raising £3m to build a new Sports Campus. This includes a new all weather sports pitch and a new, bright, welcoming and accessible building incorporating a fitness suite, a mind and body zone and an innovative sports lab. It will be a flagship facility and will provide opportunities rarely provided in a UK sate school.  It has been designed to transform the activity levels of the students and the local community, and be an innovative gateway to driving community fitness through a parallel education programme. We all know that the physical and mental well being of our young people plays an essential part in enabling them to fulfil their potential.

The good news is that the pitch and building are almost complete, but we need a final £100,000 to complete the inside of the building.  The pandemic has impacted significantly on the schools' fundraising and I will be completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in an attempt to raise the final monies required.  The Sports Campus can then open in September this year and be used by the students and the local community.
