Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
"My name is Jessica and I am 7 years old. GOSH gave my brother open heart surgery when he was 6 months old (he is 10 months old now) to make sure his heart can work properly. My brother Jack was in GOSH for 124.5 hours from having the surgery to going home but he has had other appointments too. Jack had lots of doctors, nurses, machines and medicine to make sure he was okay. GOSH are going to keep looking after Jack's heart until he is 18 to make sure it keeps working properly. I want to raise money for GOSH so that they can keep helping children like my brother to get better. GOSH looked after my brother and they gave my mum somewhere to stay and then a sofa bed on the ward with him when he left intensive care [CICU]. My mum and dad are going to do some fundraising too but this my help for GOSH. GOSH are HEROES and I want to raise as much money as I can for them!"
Message from my Mum: we are extremely proud of Jess’ decision to do this fundraising and will update the page with her progress and our fundraising events which will be added to this page. Jack had open heart surgery which involved just under 5 hours in surgery, moved into intensive care and stayed on a ward before being discharged home as well as the appointments before and after. Jess is reading one book for every hour Jack was in hospital and is also planning to sell some of her toys to add to the fundraising. The books will be a variety of type and length but the one she has started with is from the Rainbow book collection by Daisy Meadows which has 70 pages! These are the typical length of books she reads. We will add our own fundraising efforts to Jess’ page as we do them over the coming months/early 2022.
Here is an example of how your sponsorship money will help GOSH:
£2 could buy a box of microscope slides, which allow our researchers to examine life-threatening illnesses and hunt for clues to beat disease
£21 covers the costs of a flowmeter – a gadget that ensures children are getting just the right amount of oxygen whilst the recover
£44 could give one of our patient families a good night’s sleep in the hospital’s patient family accommodation so they can stay close by while their child is in hospital
£99 could fund a specialist chemical measuring tool that let’s our scientists find out the size of DNA molecules. This vital information could reveal critical clues about how to beat childhood diseases
£766 could fund one of our dedicated play workers for a week, who help children to cope with the physical and emotional stress of illness
£1081 covers the costs of a sofa bed for a parent so that they can stay close to their child and offer them comfort as the recover
£1421 could fund a portable heart monitor, so that our doctors can keep an eye on their young patient’s heartbeat
