I have chosen to support Alopecia UK as a much loved and beautiful member of my family has this condition.  When people lose their hair through cancer, they have to put up with all the other awful side effects but they do know it will grow back at some stage.  Those with alopecia may not have those side effects but they live with the uncertainty of whether their hair will ever grow back again!!

Alopecia is one of those hidden conditions that not many people hear about.  Alopecia means a person's hair will fall out, there is no known cause or cure for this condition.  The impact on the person experiencing the hair loss - adult or child is extremely distressing and can affect their emotional health, self-esteem and confidence.  More research is needed and more awareness made of this debilitating condition to give hope and confidence to those who are suffering that a cure will soon be found.  As a country we place so much emphasis on our looks and the colour/length and style of our hair and spend millions of pounds on getting the most fashionable look.  Imagine if you woke up tomorrow morning to find your hair falling out (body hair, eye brows and lashes too), how would you feel?? It can happen to anyone of us. Alopecia UK is only a small charity but is committed to finding a cure through research - let's help them on their way :)
