Story
I've been training hard and this Sunday I am running the Kielder Marathon to raise money for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital.
A few weeks after my son Jacob was born, his buddy Seb was born and was soon diagnosed with a congenital heart defect (CHD) called Tetralogy of Fallot which, if left untreated, would have meant Seb wouldn’t see his 2nd birthday.
At four months old Seb's health took a turn for the worse and the fantastic surgeons at the Freeman Hospital performed lifesaving emergency surgery on Seb. After six hours in theatre, a rollercoaster week in Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and four weeks on Ward 23 Seb was finally allowed to go home. Seb is doing well now but unfortunately will require further open heart surgery within the next couple of years and again when he is an adult.
The staff at the Freeman Hospital do fantastic work and whilst I appreciate that people often ask for money this is a fantastic cause.
