Story

Dr. Ilan Kelman is giving a talk about his recently published book Disaster By Choice.

Tickets to Dr. Kelman's talk are free, however if you wish to give an optional donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help provide aid to Pakistan then please do.

Dr. Kelman's book outlines the fact that many disasters are not the consequence of natural causes; but are the consequence of human choices and decisions.

This has been evident in the recent floods that have devastated Pakistan, submerging vast areas of land and leaving 6 million people in need of urgent help.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called it a "climate catastrophe". Whole villages have been cut off, with rescuers struggling to reach them. At least 1,400 people have been killed and 12,700 injured. Aid agencies are working in challenging conditions to meet people’s basic needs such as food, clean water and shelter, and the government of Pakistan has called for international assistance to provide humanitarian aid.
