Story

Due to Alex dislocating his shoulder the ride will now be on the 03/05/2015 when 15 year old Alex Green will be doing a sponsored bike ride from the Bentley in Lincoln to Skegness in memory of our father Julian Green who passed away in October 2013. He will be biking 46.3 MILES in aide of Macmillan Cancer Support who were with our family every step of the way through my fathers illness and have been there for us ever since he passed away. This is a MASSIVE challenge from Alex hopefully you will support him in this CHALLENGE!
We know first hand the massive affect Macmillan can have on people. Over the past 4 years Macmillan has been part of our lives. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 he was given 5 years to live. We did not know how to digest the news your first thought is this doesn’t happen to us it happens to other people, right? I personally had a very naïve view of cancer formed from the adverts on TV and how it is portrayed in shows and movies and the mind set off ‘those poor people’ when ever you heard some mention one of there friends or relatives who were suffering. The reality is very different to those portrayals and the team at Macmillan where there to hold are hands and guide us through it as well as playing the middle man between my dads doctors, nurses and GP, they where able to discuss care options with him to help his life stay as normal as possible and as dignified as possible to help him still feel human. They didnt define him by his disease he was a person, a father and a husband as well as a wonderful man. The parts off Macmillan people don’t see or are not aware off until it affects you are the communitys they set up to bring people together to make the person and the family not feel alone, my dad really liked the idea off going to a day centre and having a massage as he ached from the chemotheraphy. Or the financial advice they offered him and my mum and putting them in touch with the right people so it was one less worry at the time. Jackie are representative was there for us even if it was just some reassurance that you where doing the right thing at a very confusing time but most off all the image we have of Macmillan is that they cared, they allowed my dad to die with dignity as he wanted.
That is why we are asking you to support Alex in his Do it for Julian Bike Ride! and to keep the memory of someone very dear to us alive and helping others in his name! You may not of known our dad or us as a family but we would still like you to support this event to honour the people you may have lost or who are fighting this illness or even to get involved as you may need Macmillan in the future.
You can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/DoitforJulian or if you would like to be involved with ride either by getting in the saddle yourself or as support please email doitforjulian@outlook.com
Thank you The Green Family...
