Story
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I will not be able to participate in the Nile Challenge. If you should want your money back please contact me. Otherwise the money will still go to DRP, as I have participated in several challenges in my fundraising for the Nile.
I will be hoping to participate in other events throughout the next year.
Many Thanks,
Donal
Hey all!
Many of you already know, I will be doing a charity cycle down the Nile in November (details below). The money raised is to build new homes for people who have learning disabilities and autism in Downpatrick, N. Ireland. I have a very personal interest in this development as my young brother Ciarán who is 19 years old has severe learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and chrons disease. Ciarán lives at home with my mum who has a degenerative physical disability and who will need to use a wheelchair in the near future so Ciarán will need a permanent home.
To reach my fundraising target I will be embarking on a number of activities over the next few months
My first such event in March was a cycle from London to Paris which raised almost £400.
On September 5th I am participating in 2 key fundraising events. In the morning I am completing a 100km cycle through the Mountains of Mourne, and in the afternoon I am doing a 160 ft Bungee Jump in the Odyssey Arena Belfast. Nicole will be joining me for the cycle, while Max and Clement will be joining me for both the cycle and bungee!
I am desperately seeking sponsorship
Please donate generously!
Much Love,
Donal xx
Details of the Cycle:
Our cycle challenge takes us from the site of the burning bush through amazing desert to the Gulf of Aqaba, then across the Gulf of Suez to the coast of Egypt. From here we cross the Eastern Desert to the Nile Valley, the backbone of Egypt, before making our way to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings.
This is a unique and amazing cycle challenge through deserts, mountains and along the richly cultivated Nile Valley. The challenge links some of the most significant and amazing wonders of the world and will prove to be a real challenge and a great adventure.
Details of Downe Residential Project:
For the past sixteen years Downe Residential Project (DRP) has developed a range of services to improve the quality of life of people who have a learning disability throughout the Down district, stretching from Newcastle to Ballynahinch, from Ardglass to Saintfield. We have purchased a site on the Killough Road on which we wish to build a new centre for day care, residential and respite care services. A centre purpose designed and built to meet the needs and demands of adults with learning disabilities as they get older, and to support their families. To make this happen, we have embarked on an ambitious Fundraising Campaign – Buy a Brick Build a Home for Life and as part of this challenge, we are planning an exciting and exhilarating cycle along the Nile.
