Myself and my daughter Harriet are going to attempt to take part in a 5k Swimathon to raise vital funds and awareness for the Asbestos Cancer Charity Mesothelioma UK.

We very sadly lost my Mum and Harriet's Nanny last May 2018 on her 71st birthday, after being diagnosed with Mesothelioma in 2014 from exposure to Asbestos dust from washing my Dad’s work clothes. Mum fought so hard with such strength and positivity for those 4 years from diagnosis and we couldn’t of been more prouder of her courage, always with a beautiful smile. 

Mum, I and her grandchildren would swim almost every week together for many years until treatments and illness made it too difficult for her, so we decided we would take on this challenge at the pool we used to swim at and on a very special day in her memory - Mother’s Day March 31st 2019.

Mesothelioma is an extremely aggressive form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos dust. Currently there is no cure Mesothelioma and this area is extremely underfunded, my family recognise the importance of research, treatment, support for victims and want to support the cause and help protect others. 

Harriet is currently studying hard in her last year at A-levels, having had a difficult last year with the loss of her Nanny during mock exams, she is determined to get through the exams this summer to go onto to University in September to start her career path into medical research.
